Most industrial sectors face an urgent yet overlooked problem: Invisibility.
We spoke with Philip Reynolds from ConnectsU, a digital veteran of some 40 years. he explained: “For many sectors, particularly those in specialised or niche fields, there is a growing disconnect between their existence and the awareness of the next generation of digital natives. The result? A pipeline of future talent that runs out before it even begins.”
“Future Talent simply don’t know what sectors or local employers exist, as explained in this report:
If they are aware of local employers, they aren’t inspired or attracted enough to connect with them. Most business websites aren’t engaging enough, as the Access Generation Charity highlights:
This lack of visibility is becoming a significant problem for industries struggling to attract talent and ensure their future workforce.”
Attracting New Workforce
Without awareness, industries face an uphill battle attracting new workforce. Especially those still starting their career paths, who aren’t going to pursue opportunities they don’t know exist.
This is a dangerous trend, particularly as the older generation retires, leaving critical gaps that need to be filled by new, younger professionals.
Reynolds emphasises the importance of industry leaders and trade bodies stepping up their digital presence. “The future of your industry depends on your visibility,” he warns. “If the digital generation don’t know about you and aren’t engaged online they won’t consider you as a career option.
If they don’t consider you, your talent pool could shrink to a critical level.”
Philip poses a pertinent question to industry leaders: “Can you afford to remain invisible in a world where visibility is key to survival?”
It seems that the urgency to act is clear.
